BATH VERSES
Before bathing, make 3 full bows to the bath altar (or do the best that you can), reciting once with each bow:
I must cleanse my body and my heart.
After bathing, again make 3 full bows, reciting with each bow:
I have cleansed my body; I pray that I may cleanse my heart.

THE FIVE THOUGHTS or THE MEALTIME VERSE:
We must think deeply of the ways and means by which this food has come;
We must consider our merit when accepting it;
We must protect ourselves from error by excluding greed from our minds;
We will eat lest we become lean and die;
We accept this food so that we may become enlightened.

KESA VERSE:
How great and wondrous are the clothes of enlightenment,
Formless and embracing every treasure;
I wish to unfold the Buddha’s Teaching
That I may help all living things.

TOILET VERSES:
While using the toilet, recite:
I pray that all sentient beings will eliminate our impurities
By completely ridding ourselves of lust, anger, and delusion.
While cleansing oneself afterward, recite:
I pray that all sentient beings may turn toward the Peerless Way and leave worldly things behind.
While washing one’s hands, recite:
I pray that all sentient beings will avail ourselves of purifying patience, that we may, after all, be free from any defilement.

TOOTHBRUSH VERSE:
Before:
I take the tooth-brush that all living things may profit;
May they understand the Truth quickly and become naturally pure.
After:
Our teeth have been cleaned that all living things may profit;
Since we control the fang of delusion, let us crush delusion as this toothbrush has been crushed in the mouth.
